    In the early 1700's England was once again fighting with France. The War of the Spanish Succession saw England and it's allies trying to limit the power of France under Louis XIV. However, England proved to have one significant advantage, the man in charge of it's army.

    The Battle of Blenheim had a major impact on subsequent events. It saved the Habsburg Empire and kept the Grand Alliance together, It prevented a quick French victory in the war and destroyed the myth of the invincibility of the French Army. Finally it announced England as a major military force in Europe. The Duke of Marlborough would go on to a series of further victories and to be rewarded by a grateful nation with the building of Blenheim Palace in the Oxfordshire countryside.
